They are the only mode of transport which can easily access some areas of the world being ideally suited to shallow water, drying areas, submerged rocks, boulder strewn rivers/rapids etc. Helicopters could be an alternative in many areas but are very much more expensive and generally possess a much lighter single lift capacity.

• Any depth of water - just a few centimetres of water over coral reefs will permit safe passage.

Isolated and relatively smooth objects can be transited when they are up to half a cushion depth in height. Note: Sharp objects projecting above the water or other surface may cause damage to the flexible structure.
